1. প্রথম পাঠ প্রজ্ঞা 13:1-9

   ¹For truly all men who had no perception of God were foolish by nature, and didn’t gain power to know him who exists from the good things that are seen. They didn’t recognize the architect from his works. ²But they thought that either fire, or wind, or swift air, or circling stars, or raging water, or luminaries of heaven were gods that rule the world. ³If it was through delight in their beauty that they took them to be gods, let them know how much better their Sovereign Lord is than these, for the first author of beauty created them. ⁴But if it was through astonishment at their power and influence, then let them understand from them how much more powerful he who formed them is. ⁵For from the greatness of the beauty of created things, mankind forms the corresponding perception of their Maker. ⁶But yet for these men there is but small blame, for they too perhaps go astray while they are seeking God and desiring to find him. ⁷For they diligently search while living among his works, and they trust their sight that the things that they look at are beautiful. ⁸But again even they are not to be excused. ⁹For if they had power to know so much, that they should be able to explore the world, how is it that they didn’t find the Sovereign Lord sooner?

   ¹প্রধান বাদ্যকরের জন্য। দায়ূদের একটি গীত। আকাশমণ্ডল ঈশ্বরের গৌরব বর্ণনা করে এবং আকাশ তাঁর হাতের তৈরী কাজের পরিচয় দেয়। ²দিন দিনের র কাছে বাক্য উচ্চারণ করে; রাত রাতের কাছে জ্ঞান প্রকাশ করে। ³কোন বাক্য নেই, ভাষাও নেই; তাদের আওয়াজও শোনা যায় না। ⁴তবুও সারা জগতে তাদের বাক্য ব্যাপ্ত হবে এবং তাদের কথা পৃথিবীর শেষ প্রান্ত পর্যন্ত ছড়িয়ে পড়বে। তিনি তাদের মধ্যে সূর্য্যের জন্য তাঁবু স্থাপন করেছেন।

   ²⁶আর নোহের দিনের যেমন হয়েছিল, মনুষ্যপুত্রের দিনের ও তেমনি হবে। ²⁷লোকে খাওয়া দাওয়া করত, বিবাহ করত, বিবাহিতা হত, যে পর্যন্ত না নোহ জাহাজে প্রবেশ করলেন, আর জলপ্লাবন এসে সবাইকে ধ্বংস করল। ²⁸সেইভাবে লোটের দিনের যেমন হয়েছিল লোকে খাওয়া দাওয়া, কেনাবেচা, গাছ লাগানো ও বাড়ি তৈরী করত; ²⁹কিন্তু যেদিন লোট সদোম থেকে বাইরে গেলেন, সেই দিন আকাশ থেকে আগুনও গন্ধকের বৃষ্টি পড়ে সবাইকে ধ্বংস করল ³⁰মনুষ্যপুত্র যেদিন প্রকাশিত হবেন, সে দিনের ও এই রকমই হবে। ³¹সেই দিন যে কেউ ছাদের উপরে থাকবে, আর তার জিনিসপত্র ঘরে থাকবে, সে তা নেবার জন্য নীচে না নামুক; আর তেমনি যে কেউ মাঠে থাকবে, সেও ফিরে না আসুক। ³²লোটের স্ত্রীর কথা মনে কর। ³³যে কেউ নিজের প্রাণ লাভ করতে চেষ্টা করে, সে তা হারাবে; আর যে কেউ প্রাণ হারায়, সে তা বাঁচাবে। ³⁴আমি তোমাদের বলছি, সেই রাত্রিতে দুজন এক বিছানায় থাকবে, তাদের মধ্যে থেকে এক জনকে নেওয়া হবে এবং অন্য জনকে ফেলে যাওয়া হবে। ³⁵দুটি স্ত্রীলোক একসাথে যাঁতা পিষবে; তাদের মধ্যে থেকে এক জনকে নেওয়া হবে এবং অন্য জনকে ফেলে যাওয়া হবে।” ³⁶তখন তারা উত্তর করে তাঁকে বললেন, ³⁷“হে প্রভু, কোথায়?” তিনি তাদের বললেন, “যেখানে মৃতদেহ, সেখানেই শকুন জড়ো হয়।”
