Frequently asked questions

What do the liturgical colors mean?

Green is used in Ordinary Time, violet in Advent and Lent, white for feasts of the Lord, of Mary and of saints who were not martyrs, red for Pentecost, the Passion and the martyrs, and rose on Gaudete and Laetare Sundays.

Why might my parish celebrate a different saint today?

Bishops' conferences and dioceses have their own proper calendars and may move some solemnities to a Sunday. This page shows the universal General Roman Calendar.
