Mass readings
First reading Romans 9:1-5
1I tell the truth in Christ. I am not lying, my conscience testifying with me in the Holy Spirit 2that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart. 3For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers’ sake, my relatives according to the flesh 4who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service, and the promises; 5of whom are the fathers, and from whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God, blessed forever. Amen.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Public Domain. Source: eBible.org. Read in context: Romans 9:1-5
Responsorial Psalm Psalms 147:12-13, 14-15, 19-20
12Praise the LORD, Jerusalem! Praise your God, Zion! 13For he has strengthened the bars of your gates. He has blessed your children within you. 14He makes peace in your borders. He fills you with the finest of the wheat. 15He sends out his commandment to the earth. His word runs very swiftly. 19He shows his word to Jacob, his statutes and his ordinances to Israel. 20He has not done this for just any nation. They don’t know his ordinances. Gospel acclamation John 10:27
Gospel Luke 14:1-6
1When he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him. 2Behold, a certain man who had dropsy was in front of him. 3Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” 4But they were silent. He took him, and healed him, and let him go. 5He answered them, “Which of you, if your son or an ox fell into a well, wouldn’t immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?” 6They couldn’t answer him regarding these things.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic).
