Mass during the Day
First reading 1 Samuel 9:1-4, 17-19; 10:1a
1Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor. 2He had a son whose name was Saul, an impressive young man; and there was not among the children of Israel a more handsome person than he. From his shoulders and upward he was taller than any of the people. 3The donkeys of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. Kish said to Saul his son, “Now take one of the servants with you, and arise, go look for the donkeys.” 4He passed through the hill country of Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they didn’t find them. Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, and they weren’t there. Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they didn’t find them. 17When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said to him, “Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! He will have authority over my people.” 18Then Saul approached Samuel in the gateway, and said, “Please tell me where the seer’s house is.” 19Samuel answered Saul and said, “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you are to eat with me today. In the morning I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart. 1Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it on his head, then kissed him and said, “Hasn’t the LORD anointed you to be prince over his inheritance? Some verses are read only in part; the whole verse is shown.

Responsorial Psalm Psalms 21:2-3, 4-5, 6-7
1For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. The king rejoices in your strength, LORD! How greatly he rejoices in your salvation! 2You have given him his heart’s desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah. 3For you meet him with the blessings of goodness. You set a crown of fine gold on his head. 4He asked life of you and you gave it to him, even length of days forever and ever. 5His glory is great in your salvation. You lay honor and majesty on him. 6For you make him most blessed forever. You make him glad with joy in your presence.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Public Domain. Source: eBible.org. Gospel Mark 2:13-17
13He went out again by the seaside. All the multitude came to him, and he taught them. 14As he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. He said to him, “Follow me.” And he arose and followed him. 15He was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners sat down with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many, and they followed him. 16The scribes and the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why is it that he eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?” 17When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Public Domain. Source: eBible.org. Read in context: Mark 2:13-17

First reading Ephesians 6:10-13, 18
10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 18with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Responsorial Psalm Psalms 16:1-2a, 5, 7-8, 11
1A Poem by David. Preserve me, God, for I take refuge in you. 2My soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing.” 5The LORD assigned my portion and my cup. You made my lot secure. 7I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel. Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons. 8I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 11You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forever more. Some verses are read only in part; the whole verse is shown.

Gospel Matthew 19:16-26
16Behold, one came to him and said, “Good teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?” 17He said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but one, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 18He said to him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder.’ ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ ‘You shall not steal.’ ‘You shall not offer false testimony.’ 19‘Honor your father and your mother.’ And, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” 20The young man said to him, “All these things I have observed from my youth. What do I still lack?” 21Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, for he was one who had great possessions. 23Jesus said to his disciples, “Most certainly I say to you, a rich man will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven with difficulty. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into God’s Kingdom.” 25When the disciples heard it, they were exceedingly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 26Looking at them, Jesus said, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic).
