Mass during the Day
First reading Amos 3:1-8; 4:11-12
1Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying: 2“I have chosen only you of all the families of the earth. Therefore I will punish you for all of your sins.” 3Do two walk together, unless they have agreed? 4Will a lion roar in the thicket, when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing? 5Can a bird fall in a trap on the earth, where no snare is set for him? Does a snare spring up from the ground, when there is nothing to catch? 6Does the trumpet alarm sound in a city, without the people being afraid? Does evil happen to a city, and the LORD hasn’t done it? 7Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets. 8The lion has roared. Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken. Who can but prophesy? 11“I have overthrown some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire; yet you haven’t returned to me,” says the LORD. 12“Therefore I will do this to you, Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Responsorial Psalm Psalms 5:5-6, 7, 8
4For you are not a God who has pleasure in wickedness. Evil can’t live with you. 5The arrogant will not stand in your sight. You hate all workers of iniquity. 6You will destroy those who speak lies. The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. 7But as for me, in the abundance of your loving kindness I will come into your house. I will bow toward your holy temple in reverence of you.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Public Domain. Source: eBible.org. Read in context: Psalms 5:5-6, 7, 8

Gospel Matthew 8:23-27
23When he got into a boat, his disciples followed him. 24Behold, a violent storm came up on the sea, so much that the boat was covered with the waves; but he was asleep. 25The disciples came to him and woke him up, saying, “Save us, Lord! We are dying!” 26He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27The men marveled, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). First reading Romans 8:31b-39
31What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things? 33Who could bring a charge against God’s chosen ones? It is God who justifies. 34Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could oppression, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36Even as it is written, “For your sake we are killed all day long. We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Some verses are read only in part; the whole verse is shown.

Responsorial Psalm Psalms 124:2-3, 4-5, 7b-8
2if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us, 3then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us, 4then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul. 5Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul. 7Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler’s snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped. 8Our help is in the LORD’s name, who made heaven and earth. Some verses are read only in part; the whole verse is shown.

Gospel acclamation Matthew 5:10
Gospel Matthew 24:4-13
4Jesus answered them, “Be careful that no one leads you astray. 5For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will lead many astray. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren’t troubled, for all this must happen, but the end is not yet. 7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various places. 8But all these things are the beginning of birth pains. 9“Then they will deliver you up to oppression and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name’s sake. 10Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another. 11Many false prophets will arise and will lead many astray. 12Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold. 13But he who endures to the end will be saved.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic).
