Mass during the Day
First reading Isaiah 10:5-7, 13-16
5Alas Assyrian, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation! 6I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me I will give him a command to take the plunder and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. 7However, he doesn’t mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations. 13For he has said, “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I have understanding. I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures. Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers. 14My hand has found the riches of the peoples like a nest, and like one gathers eggs that are abandoned, I have gathered all the earth. There was no one who moved their wing, or that opened their mouth, or chirped.” 15Should an ax brag against him who chops with it? Should a saw exalt itself above him who saws with it? As if a rod should lift those who lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up someone who is not wood. 16Therefore the Lord, GOD of Armies, will send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Responsorial Psalm Psalms 94:5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 14-15
5They break your people in pieces, LORD, and afflict your heritage. 6They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless. 7They say, “The LORD will not see, neither will Jacob’s God consider.” 8Consider, you senseless among the people; you fools, when will you be wise? 9He who implanted the ear, won’t he hear? He who formed the eye, won’t he see? 10He who disciplines the nations, won’t he punish? He who teaches man knows. 14For the LORD won’t reject his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance. 15For judgment will return to righteousness. All the upright in heart shall follow it.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Public Domain. Source: eBible.org. Read in context: Psalms 94:5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 14-15
Gospel acclamation Matthew 11:25
Gospel Matthew 11:25-27
25At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants. 26Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight. 27All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Public Domain. First reading Ephesians 3:14-19
14For this cause, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner person, 17that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, 19and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Responsorial Psalm Psalms 119:9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14
9How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. 10With my whole heart I have sought you. Don’t let me wander from your commandments. 11I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. 12Blessed are you, LORD. Teach me your statutes. 13With my lips, I have declared all the ordinances of your mouth. 14I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies, as much as in all riches.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Gospel acclamation Matthew 23:9b, 10b
Gospel Matthew 23:8-12
8But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers. 9Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven. 10Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ. 11But he who is greatest among you will be your servant. 12Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic).
