First reading Jeremiah 26:1-9
1In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the LORD: 2“The LORD says: ‘Stand in the court of the LORD’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah which come to worship in the LORD’s house, all the words that I command you to speak to them. Don’t omit a word. 3It may be they will listen, and every man turn from his evil way, that I may relent from the evil which I intend to do to them because of the evil of their doings.’” 4You shall tell them, “The LORD says: ‘If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law which I have set before you, 5to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you, even rising up early and sending them—but you have not listened— 6then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.’” 7The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the LORD’s house. 8When Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, “You shall surely die! 9Why have you prophesied in the LORD’s name, saying, ‘This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be desolate, without inhabitant’?” All the people were crowded around Jeremiah in the LORD’s house.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Responsorial Psalm Psalms 69:5, 8-10, 14
4Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head. Those who want to cut me off, being my enemies wrongfully, are mighty. I have to restore what I didn’t take away. 7Because for your sake, I have borne reproach. Shame has covered my face. 8I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s children. 9For the zeal of your house consumes me. The reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me. 13But as for me, my prayer is to you, LORD, in an acceptable time. God, in the abundance of your loving kindness, answer me in the truth of your salvation.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Public Domain. Source: eBible.org. Gospel acclamation 1 Peter 1:25
Gospel Matthew 13:54-58
54Coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother called Mary, and his brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? 56Aren’t all of his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all of these things?” 57They were offended by him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country and in his own house.” 58He didn’t do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). First reading Ezekiel 3:16-21
16At the end of seven days, the LORD’s word came to me, saying, 17“Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word from my mouth, and warn them from me. 18When I tell the wicked, ‘You will surely die;’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at your hand. 19Yet if you warn the wicked, and he doesn’t turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he will die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.” 20“Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he will die. Because you have not given him warning, he will die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered; but I will require his blood at your hand. 21Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man, that the righteous not sin, and he does not sin, he will surely live, because he took warning; and you have delivered your soul.”WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic). Gospel acclamation Luke 4:18
Gospel Matthew 9:35-10:1
35Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people. 36But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them because they were harassed and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38Pray therefore that the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest.” 1He called to himself his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness.WEB-C · World English Bible (Catholic).
